Therapeutic Approach

I believe suffering is an innate aspect of human experience and everyone has the ability to tolerate and grow through difficult times. To find meaning and purpose in a life with suffering. Sometimes we have to enter the paradox of pain to get relief from the pain itself. I have 10 years of experience rendering therapeutic services and have been intensively trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.

During my time in Virginia, I facilitated individual and family intensive in-home counseling services to at risk youth and their families. I also served as a clinical supervisor for a team of intensive in-home counselors. Prior to opening my practice, I was a dialectical behavioral therapist at Portland DBT Institute. For 3 years I facilitated full fidelity DBT therapy to adolescents, young adults and adults. Additionally, I facilitated weekly behavioral skill groups to adults and adolescents targeting emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, mindfulness, and distress tolerance skills.

My ultimate therapeutic intention is to help plant seeds of self-awareness and propel perspective, introspection, agency and self-fulfillment. I typically have a blend of client-centered relational and behavioral skill building techniques. I can be eclectic and somewhat heady in my practice, however I lean on process based techniques to promote a stronger sense of self while building skills to improve quality of life. I have been practicing meditation and mindfulness for over 10 years and incorporate these principles as well.

I work well with young adults, adults, and LGBTQ individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, intrapersonal/interpersonal issues, emotional dysregulation, and self-esteem issues. I work best with folks who are motivated and intentional with their therapeutic process and I like to dig deep so if that feels relatable give me a shout!
